MODAPTS (Modular Arrangements of Predetermined Time Standards)
Modular Arrangements of Predetermined Time Standards, or MODAPTS, is an instrument designed by G.C. Heyde used to:
- Calculate production standards reliably
- Improve productivity of an organization
- Analyze efficiency of departments
- Improve employee relations
It is a system used to measure and improve the ergonomics of an organization’s workplace. By using this system, it is possible for the work team to have a detailed analysis of their work performance. It also helps them to identify various ways to simplify and improve the work and also their workplace.
Basically, MODAPTS categorizes work into two elements:
1. Use of body parts (alphabetical)
- Movement actions – pertaining to arm, hand, or finger actions
- Get actions – pertaining to grasping objects
- Put actions – pertaining to placing objects
- Body actions – linked to body movements (e.g., bending, walking, etc.)
2. Degree of efforts put in (numerical)
- MOD value = 0.129 seconds
An analysis of the work performance can be made by adding up the total MODS values. This is then used to design steps for eliminating the elements which have highest scoring MODS.
On using the MODAPTS, the work team will gain numerous opportunities for improvement. The results can be witnessed immediately in the operational productivity, as MODAPTS is basically solution-oriented. MODAPTS significantly helps improve employee relations in addition to providing objectivity to standards.
